Will I Be Approved For A Credit Card
You can definitely get approved for a credit card with a credit score of 620. However, you probably wont be able to qualify for credit cards that do not require an initial deposit, and may not qualify for some cards that offer perks such as cash back, airline and hotel points, zero percent interest, and no annual fee.
At the 620 credit score level, youre not eligible for the cards that have perks, points, rewards, and cash-back, but youre also not restricted to secured cards only. Credit issuers have several unsecured cards available that are no-frills lines of credit specifically meant to help users rebuild their credit scores.
There is one important caveat with credit cards: Only apply for credit if you are reasonably certain you will be approved. Every application for credit, regardless of approval status, causes a small drop in your credit score. Applying for credit too often and too frequently can result in a constantly declining score, from which itll take a longer amount of time to recover. Choose your cards carefully.

Make Your Payments On Time
Paying your bills on time is the most important thing you can do to help raise your score. FICO and VantageScore, which are two of the main credit card scoring models, both view payment history as the most influential factors when determining a person’s credit score. For lenders, a person’s ability to keep up with their credit card payments indicates that they are capable of taking out a loan and paying it back.
But your credit score isn’t just impacted by your credit card bills. You need to pay all your bills on time. That includes all your utilities, student loan debt and any medical bills you might have.

Some lenders choose not to lend to borrowers with credit scores in the Fair range. As a result, your financing options are going to be somewhat limited. With a score of 620, your focus should be on building your credit history and raising your credit scores before applying for any loans.
One of the best ways to build credit is by being added as an authorized user by someone who already has great credit. Having someone in your life with good credit that can cosign for you is also an option, but it can hurt their credit score if you miss payments or default on the loan.

Re: Best Buy Card Approval Chances
I was approved in Nov 2019 for best buy visa when I applied in store. Scores were less than they are now I think maybe around 680-700 across the 3. I believe they pulled EQ which was my lowest score. I do not have any collections but I do have 6 yr old student loan lates. I was approved for $2,500 starting CL. I think my aaoa was a little over 2 yrs. Only a couple inquiries. Idk if that helps.
I close on my house 30JUN20 and i am looking into getting a best buy card AFTER i close.
Some data points for you:
NFCU CC: $30/$1000 3% UTL
1 collection from 2018 that has been paid in full
EX and EQ showing 2 inquiries in the last 12 months, TU showing 3 inquiries in the last 12 months. All of these pulls were shopping for the best mortgage rates. I made 67k last year and will make about 70K this year. I have been in the Navy for 7 years.
Any light anyone can shed on this for me would be greatly appreciated!
I app’ed at checkout with about those scores last year, just a TON more inq’s and new accounts… and was fine, with an SL of 1k. Could have recon’d them if I wanted. Chose not to. Go for it once you close. You should be fine.

What Is The Minimum Credit Score For A Credit Card
You may be amazed to learn that you can get a credit card with any credit score, even the minimum score of 300. Thats because some secured credit cards do not look at credit scores when approving your application. These secured cards require no credit check for approval.
To qualify, you simply have to deposit cash into a special account maintained by the credit card company. The deposit serves as collateral to secure the cards credit limit. Thats why secured cards dont require a good credit score.
Furthermore, because your credit is secured, you can expect relatively low APRs and fees. While some cards limit your initial credit limit to $300, others allow higher credit lines with deposits of up to $5,000.
Secured cards have the same appearance as unsecured ones, so there is no embarrassment in using one. But you have options even if you would prefer an unsecured credit card:
If you dont like any of these options, you may consider opening a credit-builder account at your local credit union or at Self Financial. You can open this kind of account even if your credit score is 300. It works like this:
Pay Attention To Your Credit Utilization Rate
Your is your total credit card balance divided by your total available credit. For instance, the average American has a credit limit of $22,589 on four cards and a $6,028 balance, according to Experian. That results in a CUR of about 27%. Experts typically recommend keeping your total CUR below 30%, and below 10% is even better.
If your CUR is above 30% and you have no problem paying your bills on time and in full, you can call your card issuer and ask for a credit increase. If you’re struggling to pay off your bills and you have a high CUR, it’s smarter to figure out some areas where you can cut back your spending.

Can I Get An Unsecured Credit Card With Bad Credit
If your FICO score is below 580, you have bad credit. While its much easier to get a secured card when your credit is forlorn, you may, in fact, be able to acquire several unsecured credit cards for low credit scores. The online forums are full of stories of folks who were able to get an unsecured card with a score as low as 500, or even lower.
Naturally, these cards are nothing to write home about. Typically, they have high APRs, high fees, and tiny credit limits . They dont offer rewards, and their benefits are paper-thin.
Nonetheless, they are credit cards, and if you use them responsibly, you should be able to rebuild your credit because they usually report your payments to the three credit bureaus.
To get the most credit improvement from a card in this category, you should always, without fail, pay your monthly bill on time. You should also endeavor to pay the full amount each month so you are not carrying a balance. Many of these cards will review your behavior after six months and reward you with a higher credit limit.
You should apply for a better card once you raise your score into the fair credit score range .
Cards for consumers with fair credit are much better because they charge fewer fees, permit higher credit limits, and may offer you rewards and benefits. You will want to graduate to a fair credit card within a year because many of the unsecured cards for bad credit impose a monthly maintenance fee after the first year we hate that fee and so should you.
Check The Fees Charged
Different credit cards normally charge different fees. Some will come with high annual fees while others will have relatively lower annual fees. If you are rational enough, you should go for the one that charges the lowest fees. Better still, if you come across a card that does not charge any fees, go for it as you will get value for money. Besides this, the card should earn you rewards anytime you make purchases. The more rewards you get the better the card.
